Direct container shipping route to link Wuhan with OsakaA direct shipping route is scheduled to be launched to link Osaka, Japan with Wuhan, capital of central China's Hubei Province within this year, local authorities said on August 2.
Wuhan Xingang Datong International Shipping Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of the Central China Logistics Corporation, signed a cooperation agreement with Ben Line Agencies (Japan) Ltd to jointly promote direct shipping lines to Japan.
Wuhan's first 500-TEU container ship to Japan, named "Central China Logistics Hanya 1," set sail on its maiden voyage on June 12. The ship will be put into operation by the end of 2019.
In recent years, Wuhan-Japan waterway express routes for containers and direct shipping routes for bulk cargo have been launched, which has greatly enhanced economic and trade cooperation between the two sides, said Wang Benju, deputy director of Department of Transportation of Hubei Province.
In 2018, Hubei-Japan waterway foreign trade for containers exceeded 40,000 TEUs and maintained good growth momentum, which witnessed the total import and export volume between Hubei and Japan amounted to 4.155 billion U.S. dollars. It played an important role in strengthening economic and trade ties between the two sides.
